Rice husk is the outer protective layer that encases the rice kernel, serving as a natural shield during the rice growth cycle. They are a natural outcome of the rice milling process, a critical step in transforming raw rice into polished grains consumed worldwide. This outer layer, while indigestible and inedible to humans, plays an essential role in protecting the rice kernel during growth and contributes to the overall health of the rice plant. Rice husk is primarily composed of three major components: cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. It also contains a substantial amount of silica (silicon dioxide), which contributes to its hardness and abrasiveness. This high silica content sets rice husk apart from many other agricultural byproducts. As a result, it has unique physical and chemical properties that make it suitable for various applications.
